We use mathematical models to analyze data (participants\u2019 behaviour and brain activity) recorded during cognitive tasks. Through the use of these models, it is possible to infer underlying neural mechanisms that help us understand the participants\u2019 mental health.\n\n<br><br>\n\nOur long-term vision is to leverage\u00a0<a style=\"color: var(--red);\" href=\"#cognitivenetworkmodelling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cognitive network modelling<\/a>\u00a0to help patients in the clinic. We utilize a suite of mathematical models, including hierarchical Bayesian, reinforcement learning, and machine learning algorithms, to infer underlying cognitive and neuronal mechanisms.<br \/><br \/>On one axis, our research examines how basic learning signals, such as predictions and \u201ccorrection\u201d signals or prediction errors, are represented in the brain using probabilistic learning tasks and multimodal imaging (EEG and fMRI). This foundational knowledge serves as a substrate for our parallel line of inquiry that investigates how distortions in the representation of these learning signals contribute to maladaptive behaviours and pathological states.
